About Robert Hyman

Robert Hyman

Robert Hyman was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He made his opera debut and continued to sing throughout America and Canada, including several performances with the Opera Orchestra of New York at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.

Recent engagements include Conte di Luna/Il Trovatore at Danish National Opera and the same role at Colorado Opera in the States, Scarpia/Tosca at Danish National Opera as well as Bartolo/Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Opera på Skäret.

Mr. Hyman made his European debut in Leipzig in 1991 and continued to sing many productions with the theater as well as singing in Brussels, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Frankfurt and a Mozart trilogy for MDR television.

He has been specializing in the Italian repertoire in opera houses throughout Europe. He has thus sung Michonnet in Adriana Lecouvreur with Mº Viotti in Tivoli, Denmark and in Bern; he also had a very successful debut of Miller in Verdi’s Luisa Miller with the Oslo Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Mº Santi. The public and the press enthusiastically received his Iago in Otello in Bassano del Grappa, after which he sang Luna/ Il Trovatore in Trieste, Macbeth in Bern, Spoleto’s Festival dei Due Mondi and in Athens to stunning reviews.

Robert also made a triumphant debut in Greece with Scarpia. In Spoleto, he made his first venture into German opera with Zemlinsky’s Florentine Tragedy, afterwards also performing Luna in Marseille and Toulon, Nabucco in Bern and in the Xanten festival, Marcello/La Bohème in Leipzig, his first Rigoletto in Gothenberg, and Mr. Redburn/Billy Budd in Genova. He has recently completed Cavelleria Rusticana as Alfio in Macao, and La Traviata as Germont in Los Angeles as well as in Gothenburg.

Among other previous engagements he has sung a concert version of Il Trovatore in Copenhagen and the Pacini Messa da Requiem in Catania; Brahms’ Deutches Requiem with the Verdi orchestra in Milan as well as the Missa Solemnis of Beethoven. Other engagements have included Madama Butterfly in Beijing, Carmen in Gijon, Hansel und Gretel and Rigoletto in Tulsa, Germont/La Traviata at Danish National Opera and Michele/Il Tabarro, and Tonio/I Pagliacci at outdoor festival Opera på Skäret in Sweden. Hyman sang Tamare in Schreker’s Die Gezichneten in Palermo and Rigoletto in Bergamo, Mantova, Lucca, and Novara in Italy.
